Sheki, the art capital of Azerbaijan, was declared the “UNESCO Creative City”.
The certificate of candidacy prepared by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan was submitted to the UNESCO Secretariat and as a result of joint efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO, Sheki joined the Creative Cities “craftsmanship and folk creativity” of sub-network.
64 cities from 44 countries have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General, Irina Bokova. They join a Network at the frontline of UNESCO’s efforts to foster innovation and creativity as key drivers for a more sustainable and inclusive urban development. This network attracts growing interest from local authorities.
The Network covers seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Arts, Media Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, Literature and Music.
